The Institution and Induction of The Rev’d Michael David Bigg as Vicar of Madingley

On the afternoon of Sunday 13th September the Rev’d Michael Bigg was installed as Vicar of The Parish of Madingley by The Bishop of Ely, the Rt Rev’d Stephen Conway and The Archdeacon of Cambridge, The Ven Dr Alex Hughes.  Ms Lily Bacon, Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, read the Deeds of Presentation and Mr John Rowley commended Michael on behalf of his previous Parish of East Leightonstone.  Earlier in the afternoon there was a similar service at St Andrew’s Church Girton, when Michael was installed as Rector of Girton.  The two parishes are linked ‘in plurality’.  Rev’d Michael and his wife Kathryn were warmly welcomed to the village by representatives of the Madingley community.

Despite the restrictions caused by Covid 19 which affected the numbers of people permitted to attend the service along with a ban on congregational singing and refreshments, this was a joyful occasion. In a time of uncertainty and anxiety it was wonderful to be able to celebrate and pray together as we begin the next chapter in the life of this parish, represented by Michael’s future ministry amongst us.  Glorious music was provided by Jan Pearson at the organ, harpist Jo Wallace-Hadrill and soloist Felicity Conway and warm, afternoon sunshine greeted the congregation as they left the church.
